Environmental Landscapes by Tom Stevens
Usually, art reflects the society from which it originates. If one hunted Mammoth, then one probably painted Mammoth.
So, my work is characterized by themes that interest me. I spent a number of years documenting the urban landscape of Denver in a series of more than 120 Archival Pigment Prints entitled " Inner Mansions" ®. Also an Archival Pigment Prints series entitled "Rivers Run" includes over 40 pieces of the many rivers I have paddled, floated and rowed. A series of works in Oil and Archival Pigment Prints capturing Colorado farms and ranches also met with success with audiences. I have spent considerable time in New Mexican Pueblos documenting and interpreting what I saw there as well.
For the past eight years I have been working on a new series of ecological landscape
The biggest challenge is to make Environmental Issues into interesting paintings. Here is an image I took that is a typical Southwestern Landfill near Towac Colorado... Still can't make it into a painting I like!
Sincerely,
Tom Stevens
